Monica and Rachel were at "The Lazy Harp", enjoying a quiet afternoon. "I'm so satisfyed with this new tea they have!" Monica declared after a long sip.
Rachel, focused on a particularly stubborn knot in her necklace chain, mumbled in agreement. "It is good… I can't seem to undo this," she added, tugging at the tangled silver.
Monica, ever the problem-solver, reached across the table. "Here, let me try." She took the necklace and expertly unclasped it.
She pointed to a tiny safety pin. "The pin was stuck! This must have been what was holding it," she explained.
Rachel laughed, relieved. "Oh, thank goodness!"
Later that evening, after leaving the pub, Rachel decided to purchase a new plant for her apartment. She remembered seeing some lovely ferns in a shop down the street.
Suddenly, a man bumped into Rachel with such force that her purchased plant flew into the air, landing upside down on the street.
Rachel was about to shout in frustration when she realized the man wasn't paying attention at all. In fact, he seemed to be entirely focused on something else entirely.
He was looking up at a group of pigeons perched on a building ledge, pointing and talking to himself with rapt fascination. Rachel recognized him - it was Ross, Monica's friend, and his fear of pigeons was legendary.
"Ross?" Rachel asked. Ross jumped and let out a yelp, then turned to Rachel, his cheeks reddening. "Oh, uh… hi Rachel. I… I wasn't…"," he stammered, gesturing vaguely at the birds. "They’re… they’re building nests." Rachel didn't understand his strange obsession with pigeons. She knew that bird watching is one of his hobbies, even if he was afraid of them.
Rachel smiled. "It's okay, Ross. Just be careful they don't… you know…" she trailed off, unsure how to sexually define their pigeon activities.
Ross looked puzzled, then laughed nervously. "Right. Right," he said, still eyeing the pigeons with a mixture of fascination and dread as he edged away from them. "They do tend to get a bit… enthusiastic… sometimes." Rachel couldn't help but smirk. "Enthusiastic" was one word for it. She picked up her slightly damaged fern and bid farewell to the pigeon enthusiast.
