Rachel: I'm so excited for the marathon! It's my eleventh race!
Monica: Wow, eleventh? That's amazing, Rachel! Remember your first one? You finished one hundred and twenty-fifth.
Chandler: One hundred and twenty-fifth? That's almost last! Remember when I finished twelfth in the pie-eating contest?
Ross: Twelfth? That’s impressive, Chandler. Though, Monica, I think it’s probably better to finish twenty-first in a marathon than twenty-first in a pie-eating contest, health-wise I mean.
Tony: Guys, I’m hungry. Maybe after the marathon, we could order one hundred and eleventh chicken wings?

Numeri Cardinali e Ordinali (11+)

In inglese, i numeri cardinali indicano una quantità, mentre i numeri ordinali indicano una posizione in una sequenza.I numeri cardinali sono quelli che usiamo per contare: one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, ten, eleven, twelve, thirteen, fourteen, fifteen, sixteen, seventeen, eighteen, nineteen, twenty, thirty, forty, fifty, sixty, seventy, eighty, ninety, one hundred, one thousand, etc.I numeri ordinali indicano la posizione in una serie: first, second, third, fourth, fifth, etc.

Formazione dei Numeri Ordinali (11+)

Per formare i numeri ordinali dall'undicesimo in poi, generalmente si aggiunge il suffisso "-th" al numero cardinale corrispondente.
  • Eleventh (11°)
  • Twelfth (12°)
  • Thirteenth (13°)
  • Fourteenth (14°)
  • Fifteenth (15°)
  • Sixteenth (16°)
  • Seventeenth (17°)
  • Eighteenth (18°)
  • Nineteenth (19°)
Per i numeri che terminano con "y" (come twenty, thirty, forty, ecc.), si sostituisce la "y" con "ie" prima di aggiungere "-th".
  • Twentieth (20°)
  • Thirtieth (30°)
  • Fortieth (40°)
I numeri composti come "twenty-first", "thirty-second", etc., seguono questa regola: solo l'ultima parte del numero prende la forma ordinale.
  • Twenty-first (21°)
  • Thirty-second (32°)
  • Forty-third (43°)
  • Fifty-fourth (54°)
  • One hundred and first (101°)
  • One hundred and twenty-fifth (125°)
Eccezioni: Come sempre in inglese, ci sono alcune eccezioni: first (1°), second (2°), third (3°), fifth (5°), eighth (8°), ninth (9°), twelfth (12°).
